It was deployed during the latest armed robbery on December 17, 2009, days after being installed. A robber who threatened staff with a knife and stole drugs was sprayed with the DNA Guardian mist before being nabbed by police. The offender lit up like a Christmas tree a Police officer said and they are using the DNA as evidence.
The Pharmacy has not had a robbery since the deployment.
Amcal pharmacy manager Angela Hoy said she and her staff were "fed up" with being robbed and the $3500 for the DNA Guardian device was money well spent. "Anything that's going to stop them coming in will make my staff feel more at ease”.
